Introduction

When a rapidly growing, Los Angeles-based activewear brand sets its sights on conquering the global luxury market, it does not hire a traditional sporting goods executive. It hires a leader who understands the absolute pinnacle of European high fashion. In January 2026, Alo Yoga appointed Benedetta Petruzzo as its first-ever International Chief Executive Officer, pulling her directly from the storied halls of Christian Dior Couture.

She is responsible for scaling Alo's massive international operations, overseeing the brand's global growth strategy, client experience, and identity across Europe, Asia, and beyond. Her leadership is defined by an unparalleled pedigree in European luxury houses, a rigorous foundation in global management consulting, and a mandate to seamlessly blend the "studio-to-street" aesthetics of American activewear with the exclusivity and holistic wellness demands of the modern, affluent global consumer.

From Milanese Finance to Parisian Couture

Petruzzo’s ascent through the global fashion hierarchy is a masterclass in combining analytical rigor with aesthetic vision. Armed with a business administration degree and a Master of Science in Management from Bocconi University in Milan, she bypassed the traditional retail floor and instead began her career in the finance sector and management consultancy. Spending several years at Bain & Company, she focused specifically on the retail and luxury sectors, gaining a granular, mathematical understanding of how the world's most prestigious brands actually scale and capture market share.

Her transition into operational leadership was swift and formidable. She spent five highly successful years at Kering Eyewear, eventually becoming Executive Vice President for North America. However, her reputation as a global force was cemented within the Prada Group, where she served as the CEO of Miu Miu. Under her stewardship, Miu Miu experienced explosive, market-defying growth, becoming one of the most culturally dominant and financially successful luxury brands in the world. This phenomenal track record led to her appointment as Managing Director of Christian Dior Couture in 2024. By the time Alo Yoga co-founders Danny Harris and Marco DeGeorge recruited her to lead their international expansion, Petruzzo possessed a rare, undeniable playbook: she knew exactly how to engineer hype, protect brand equity, and generate massive international revenue for the most scrutinized fashion houses on earth.

The Alo International Playbook

Petruzzo approaches the global expansion of Alo Yoga with a strategy that rejects the idea of activewear as mere workout apparel. She is positioning the company as a holistic, multicategory luxury lifestyle brand. Her playbook encompasses three critical pillars:

➤ Elevating the Aesthetic to Luxury: Petruzzo understands that to compete globally, Alo cannot just be an "L.A. brand." Drawing on her experience at Miu Miu and Dior, she is executing a strategy that treats activewear with the same prestige and operational discipline as European couture, ensuring the brand's global retail footprints (from London to Seoul) deliver a premium, high-touch client experience.

➤ The "Like-Minded" Club Model: She recognizes that modern consumers do not just buy products; they buy into a community. Petruzzo envisions Alo not simply as a retailer, but as a global "Club for like-minded individuals." By focusing heavily on the brand's mindfulness and holistic wellness categories (including the Alo Glow System skincare line), she ensures the company aligns entirely with how the affluent international customer lives, moves, and feels.

➤ Strategic, Rigorous Scaling: Having analyzed market entry strategies at Bain & Co., Petruzzo is deploying a calculated, highly targeted global expansion. Rather than recklessly opening stores, she relies on strategic rigor and data to identify the precise international markets where Alo's premium wellness narrative will resonate most powerfully, currently overseeing rapid growth across Europe and Asia.

Lessons on Boldness and Cultural Relevance

Petruzzo has built a reputation as a leader who operates at the absolute cutting edge of the fashion zeitgeist without losing sight of the foundational business metrics. She leads with the philosophy that a brand's cultural relevance—its "coolness"—must be backed by operational excellence and a deep understanding of the consumer's emotional connection to the product.

She operates with the belief that true luxury is no longer defined strictly by heritage; it is defined by intention. By leaving the traditional European luxury houses to lead a disruptive American activewear company, she proved her willingness to completely upend her own career trajectory to capture the future of retail. Her success demonstrates that the most formidable executives don't just protect legacy brands; they actively build the new ones that will define the next decade of consumer behavior.

Takeaways

➤ Consulting Builds the Foundation: Petruzzo’s early career at Bain & Company proves that a rigorous, analytical foundation in management consulting is an elite executive asset, allowing a leader to understand the mechanics of scaling before they ever take operational control.

➤ Luxury is a State of Mind: By bringing a Dior and Miu Miu pedigree to an activewear brand, she demonstrates that "luxury" is no longer just about leather goods; it is about the premium, intentional experience a brand delivers across all touchpoints.

➤ Community as the Ultimate Product: Her vision of Alo as a "Club for like-minded individuals" highlights that modern global scaling requires selling an entire lifestyle and shared ethos, rather than just isolated products.

➤ Own the Future, Don't Just Protect the Past: Her decision to pivot from legacy European fashion houses to a rapidly expanding wellness brand shows that elite executives must be willing to abandon safe, traditional paths to capture emerging, high-growth cultural movements.

Quote to Remember

❝

On how she works with influencers: “The objective isn’t simply visibility. This would be short-sighted. We are creating long-term brand advocates. Very differently from others in the market, who transactionally create a relationship where a [talent] just works out wearing the brand. The people that express Alo, it’s really part of their lifestyle. They are in our gyms every day. They enjoy talking to our people and spending time with us.”
