Introduction
In the notoriously volatile world of Major League Baseball front offices, executive survival is a rarity. General managers and chief baseball officers are routinely fired, entire analytics departments are overhauled, and organizational philosophies change with the wind. Amidst this constant churn, Raquel Ferreira has remained the unshakeable foundation of the Boston Red Sox for more than a quarter-century.
As the Executive Vice President and Assistant General Manager, she is one of the highest-ranking women in the history of baseball operations. Ferreira built her career entirely from the ground up. Armed with a communications degree from the University of Rhode Island, she joined the Red Sox in 1999 as an administrative assistant. Be yourself. Don’t pretend to be somebody you’re not because this game will expose you very quickly. Don’t come in saying you know how to operate a radar gun if you don’t, or you know how to write a scouting report. I always tell people to be accountable because everybody makes mistakes.
