Daytona State AD/Dean of the School of Health & Wellness Alison Mohr joined College.town’s Kristen Eargle to dive into her transition to the chair, the Falcons’ culture and more. Here are some of her most notable comments…

➤ After 28 years with the institution, Mohr on the lessons learned from former AD Will Dunn: “He empowered me really throughout my career to take chances and take opportunities. And I was pretty eager to seek out information and want to be involved from the get-go. So he empowered me to do those things and I think it really, really helped bring me along and we always talked through things. We don't ever make decisions on our own, so we always talk through things when we get into certain situations and being able to do that with him alongside him. Then, obviously, he was the one taking those across campus if it needed to go across campus, and now the difference is I'm that person taking it across campus.”

➤ On facility improvements and institutional support: “We just finished a huge renovation in our fitness center added on an area that's just for student-athletes and got all brand-new equipment. Another project we just finished was a multipurpose field practice facility for all the teams to use it, but essentially our men's and women's soccer teams, flag football teams will practice over that practice facility, a brand new indoor golf simulator. I mean, 12-time national champions and finally got them a space. That rainy Florida weather sometimes kills us, and we can't get out there on the course. We've now got an indoor simulator and putting green that they can putt inside and that's been huge. So a lot of great things. We're always looking to upgrade.”

➤ What does success look like moving forward? “So to me it's just continuing what we've built and continuing to build upon it. … As long as we continue to do those things, and obviously we want our kids to graduate, we want them to matriculate to the next level. Seeing the successes of our coaches and some of our former coaches that have moved on now to bigger things, I don't want to say better, but I'm going to say bigger. Those things are important and hearing back from them is always great to see them be successful on top of it. … So that success to me is just continuing what we've been doing and really seeing that flourish going forward.” (link)

Paradise Valley AD Christina Hundley sat down on Women 360 to dive into the value of committee experience on her career. “I think it's a huge asset on both sides of the coin. Both for myself as a female administrator, but also on the men's side of the house, if you will, there's been a lot of separation and coming up through the ranks for the last 20 or 30 years that separation has become lesser but I think there's still room to bridge the gap there. … My work with the national office, with the board and with all the committees that I serve on, has given me a great appreciation for the breadth of what we do. It’s very easy for ADs and coaches to become very myopic. … However, understanding the big picture and hopefully having some impact in the big picture has helped me bring home those lessons and how we play on the national stage with 500-plus institutions across the country and where we fit into that picture.” (link)

NorthWest Arkansas plans to expand its athletic department with the addition of baseball in the spring of 2028 and softball the following year. Facilities for those new programs are not currently included in NWACC’s facility master plan and AD Brooke Brewer tells Axios NW Arkansas’ Alex Golden they are working on an agreement to utilize an off-campus facility. President Dennis Rittle says that the Eagles’ new booster club is working to raise funds for a new soccer/track & field/cross country facility. Amidst a number of major facility projects, Rittle adds that the college plans to be debt-free by 2035. (link)

The New Balance Future Stars Series will host two junior college baseball events at the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field to open the 2027 collegiate season through its ongoing partnership with the NJCAA. The back-to-back events will bring 17 team entries representing 16 institutions to Arlington. “The collaboration is designed to elevate junior college baseball through expanded national exposure, advanced player evaluation, development opportunities and high-profile events that connect student-athletes with four-year institutions and professional baseball organizations.” (link)

➤ Passaic County narrows its presidential search to three finalists: former Maryland’s Secretary of Higher Education/Montgomery senior administrator Sanjay Rai, former Anna Maria (NCAA DIII) SVP for Academic Affairs and Professor of Communications Chioma Ugochukwu, and former Community College of Philadelphia President Donald Guy Generals. (link)
➤ NACDA names Summit Racing Equipment Search and Discovery Engineer Eddie Mitchell as VP, effective November 9. Mitchell will be working primarily in the database, membership and event registration space, eventually replacing 31-year NACDA veteran Brian Horning, who announced plans to retire following the convention in June. ➤ Polk State taps Softball AC/alum Brittany Anderson as its Interim HC for this season. (link)

The National Park Board of Trustees approved a resolution to negotiate and finalize a merger agreement with the University of Arkansas System. If approved by UA Trustees, NPC would become the 10th community college in Arkansas to join the system. NPC Board Chair Jim Hale: “After careful consideration, the Board concluded that joining the University of Arkansas System is in the best interests of our students, employees and the communities we serve. Dr. Derden and his team did a thorough job of presenting the information the Board needed to understand the benefits of the merger and make the decision to move forward.” (link)

Preliminary data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center of 46% of institutions shows public two-year undergraduate enrollment is up 1.1% year-over-year and up 4.6% from fall 2024 to 2026. Louisiana saw the biggest year-over-year jump in undergraduate students, with a 7.8% increase in students. From fall 2024 to fall 2026, Kentucky (+9.6%), Idaho (+8.2%), North Carolina (+7.2%), New Mexico (+7.0%) and Texas (+6.3%) saw the most growth. On the other end, Vermont has seen the largest two-year drop in undergraduate students at 5.4%. Among the top major fields, Mechanic and Repair Technologies and Health Professions saw the largest increases, up 6.1% and 4.3% respectively, while computer and information science enrollment plummeted 12.3%. Senior Research Director Matthew Holsapple: “The important change this fall isn’t widespread decline; it’s the loss of that broad-based growth we saw last year.” (link, link - data)
