D1.dossiers... Western Michigan is hot off the press. Additional dossiers are ready for Air Force, Cal State Bakersfield, Duquesne, Incarnate Word, Iowa State, Louisiana, Old Dominion, Radford, Rice, Rider, South Carolina State and Western Illinois. Coming soon: Campbell, Jackson State, Michigan and UAB. Just $349 for an entire year of access to all dossiers. (link)
Here’s the latest from the SEC on the Louisiana state court order: “The order entered against the SEC and Commissioner [Greg] Sankey is a temporary restraining order, not a final ruling on the merits. The SEC and Commissioner Sankey are prepared to contest the allegations in the plaintiffs’ petition at Thursday morning’s hearing and defend the SEC’s rights as a voluntary association to fulfill its mission to its member institutions. In the meantime, the SEC and Commissioner Sankey will continue to comply with the Court’s order. Following the hearing, the SEC will carefully review the Court’s decision and determine the appropriate next steps.” (link)
Meanwhile, LouisianaSports.net's Matt Moscona reports LSU women’s soccer student-athletes Jazmin Ferguson and Jocelyn Ollivierre became the first SEC athletes to compete under a temporary restraining order granting an additional year of eligibility to 42 athletes from the high school class of 2022. Their appearance, Moscona notes, sets a critical precedent for LSU Football HC Lane Kiffin ahead of a Thursday court hearing in Baton Rouge to determine a preliminary injunction. (link)
In Game's Daniel O'Boyle reports that sports insurance company Game Point Capital used Kalshi to place $3M in block trades to cover performance bonuses for LSU Football HC Lane Kiffin. LSU bought a sports insurance policy by paying Game Point Capital an upfront premium to assume the legal liability for the contract incentives, and the company subsequently placed five separate wagers two weeks ago that perfectly mirror the exact payout structure Kiffin earns for reaching the College Football Playoff and winning the national championship. O’Boyle: “The total combined payout of $3M if LSU won the national championship (causing all five trades to pay out) is exactly equal to Kiffin’s national championship bonus payment. The payout for making it to the playoff or advancing to the quarterfinals, semifinals, or finals are all close to Kiffin’s bonus payment for each round, though never exactly matching. The taker side, which would be paid in the event LSU makes it to or wins the playoff, put down $662,500. The market maker therefore staked $2.34M.” O’Boyle notes Game Point Capital executed similar off-exchange trades in July to cover potential win-total payouts for South Carolina Football HC Shane Beamer. (link)
The Fresno Bee’s Robert Kuwada breaks down Fresno State AD Garrett Klassy’s new five-year, $2.9M contract. The agreement includes a $480K base salary while establishing a tiered bonus structure that pays up to $110K annually if the department reaches peak external revenue thresholds. Top-tier targets are defined as $20M in fundraising, $10M in multimedia rights, and $1.5M from external facility events, as Kuwada notes the department’s $61.8M budget trailed the $80.9M conference average in 2025. If Klassy maxes out all the bonuses in his contract, including those tied to team performance and budget maintenance, he could make an additional $333K, which includes $150K if the Bulldogs were to win the College Football Playoff national championship. Michigan AD Warde Manuel tells The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb that he has yet to decide what comes next after he steps down, adding: “I’m invested in continuing to do the things I need to do here as the athletic director for the next few months. Michigan has been a large, complex organization that I've run for over 11 years. We've done great things in terms of success on the field, academics, and facilities that we've built. I've hired great people, gone through all those processes. This, for me, is not the end of my time contributing as a leader. My focus is on Michigan now and as I go through the next few months to determine what the next chapter is going to be. But this is not the end for me. I'm 58 years old. I feel like I have a lot to give to athletics in general – college, professional, whatever it is.” (link)
Big Sky Commissioner Tom Wistrcill emphasized the need for continued political advocacy as mid-major conferences push Congress to pass the Protect College Sports Act. Wistrcill, who operates alongside the Mid-Major Conference Coalition and its federal lobbyists, acknowledged that while the current legislation includes unintended consequences and compromises, federal intervention remains essential to combat the relentless threat of antitrust litigation and stabilize the transfer portal: "We’re at a point now where 32 conferences support the legislation. Is it perfect? No. ... I wish it would solve every problem and be perfect for the Big Sky Conference and the future of college athletics. That’s not realistic. So I’m like, boy, if not this, then what? And that’s the ‘what’ that scares me." Wistrcill also outlined a broader mandate to leverage the conference's football success—highlighted by Montana State's recent national championship—to capture exclusive late-night broadcast windows on ESPN and establish the league as a perennial FCS playoff fixture: "There are millions of people who either have just gotten home, or they’re at the bar, and on their TV is Big Sky football. That is so meaningful, to be the last game on of the night." (link)
Indiana AD Scott Dolson joined the Sideline Stories podcast & discussed utilizing a new $50M line of credit to address structural decay at Memorial Stadium: "That $50 million is really … a line of credit to help us from an R&R standpoint, from a guts of the building to make certain that we can handle sellouts, that we can host home games in December. If we host a CFP game, the pipes won't freeze and break." The Hoosiers are also launching a major gift campaign to fund fan-facing stadium renovations: "We're in a silent fundraising [campaign]. ... And we're really looking at a lot of exciting things to make certain that it touches every fan. ... Whether it's overall fan experience when you come into the game, the concourses, concession stands, restrooms … to scoreboards, sound system, Wi-Fi." (link)
Oklahoma State AD Chad Weiberg joined Big 12 Today to discuss expectations for the football program this season, the hiring of Football HC Eric Morris, the challenge of revitalizing donor engagement and more. Here are the key takeaways…
➤ Establishing a baseline expectation for Morris' inaugural season: "I think it’s certainly fair to have the expectation that we’re gonna be bowl eligible. I think at this point, that is a minimum expectation that we’d like to get back into postseason competition, whatever that looks like. But that’s sorta the floor. I’m not ready to set any kind of cap on where we can go beyond that."
➤ Relying on a high-scoring offense to re-engage the fanbase: "People are just excited to see what’s gonna happen. We have a history here, it’s kind of our identity of scoring a lot of points. When Coach [Mike] Gundy first took over the program, we scored a lot of points, and I think that’s what people are anticipating we are going to see here. That is part of our identity, so people are really excited about what that’s gonna look like."
➤ On navigating the financial fallout of the program's recent rough patch: "When you go through that, yeah, it had the impact that it’s gonna have anywhere and I think our fans actually did a great job even through it. We still had really, really good crowds for most of the season last season. Even going through that, people were behind our players and wanting them to have success, but there is just a lot of excitement for this new era, and I think everything that comes with that from a donor standpoint, from a fan standpoint, ticket-buying, all of those things.” (link)
The capacity at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium will be listed at 32K for Jayhawks football games for the 2026 season, per Jayhawks AD Travis Goff, who notes that number will grow to 43K for the 2027 campaign, once construction work on the upper-level east-side bleachers is completed. In regard to ticket sales, Goff remarked: “The [sales] team is working hard, and I think typically what we’ve found is that the final week to 10 to 14 days [before game one], people are coming off vacations, kids are back to school. Most of the people that are considering buying single-game tickets are starting to just now think about football season. So we’ll have a great seven to eight days ahead on the sales front. … We have tickets available still for the Missouri game. They are on sale publicly. I mean I’m not encouraging Missouri people to buy and come in, but certainly there are tickets available still. We’ll get to a sellout. It will be a question of what’s the timing for that?” (link)
Nevada AD Stephanie Rempe joined Wolf Pack All Access to discuss the athletic department's financial strategy, the impending debut of a new indoor fieldhouse, and the push for state funding equity, noting UNR seeks to secure $10M to match the state funding currently allocated to UNLV, alongside an additional $5M request to fund non-revenue sport scholarships following the House settlement. D1.takeaways…
➤ Unveiling a department rebrand alongside the opening of the new indoor fieldhouse on Oct. 20: "The president will do a state of the university from the fieldhouse, which will be fantastic. And part of the state of the university is also an unveiling of a new brand for the university and for athletics. So, it’s under lock and key. People are having to sign NDAs and all kinds of stuff. But on October 20, everybody will get to see what we’ve been working on for probably about a year, maybe more.”
➤ Pushing lawmakers to correct a 15-year funding disparity with UNLV: "We are going to the legislature saying, can you make it equitable between us and UNLV? Because we both, again, 400 student-athletes, 17 sports, doesn't make a whole lot of sense."
➤ Finalizing a $1M naming rights agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders: "The million-dollar gift actually has been in the works for a little while. And we are naming the entrance way to the football building to be the Las Vegas Raiders entrance to our football." (link)
Northern Colorado AD Darren Dunn joined The Hull Show to discuss the debut of stadium lights at Nottingham Field, the synergy among the university's head coaches and other topics. Here are the highlights…
➤ Experiencing unprecedented ticket demand for football: "My phone number's been really popular with people looking for tickets all of a sudden. So it is a great feeling. I feel like it's kind of like the calm before the storm a little bit, but it is going to be really electric, I think, when the team comes running out."
➤ Partnering with Musco Lighting to execute the rapid summer construction timeline: "It was not a long process. ... I think they started June 1 and by mid July we had poles up."
➤ On transforming the fan experience through night games: "I think with our warm weather that we've had, it is going to be great having a night game tonight just because I think our students and our fans get so hot in our bleachers. … Even my kids who are students here don't come to very many events. And so they're coming tonight, they're tailgating for the first time in four years that they've been going to school here. So to me, that's a sign that the interest level has risen to a new spot with the lights." (link)
New North Carolina A&T AD Katreshia Louis-Verrett in discussing her vision for the athletic department explained that it starts with setting high expectations. “We have to talk about winning. We have to make sure our athletes are prepared in all areas. Winning doesn't start with the sound of the clock or the horn; it starts with preparation." Chancellor James Martin II commented on Louis-Verrett’s own preparation during the interview process: "She also had a detailed plan about what she could see as our future. She was extremely prepared. It's obvious that she's meticulous, which is a big part of leadership. She knew as much about us as possible." Martin also noted that "[An athletic director] really has gone from somebody on the sideline to somebody with a corporate mindset. You have to understand the legal framework, the financial framework. You have to understand marketing, PR. It's more than just understanding the student-athlete." (link)
Gardner-Webb has suspended Football HC Kris McCullough, according to FootballScoop’s Zach Barnett, who notes the school is “evaluating its options after off-field allegations emerged against the first-year head coach.” Further details have yet to be disclosed. (link)
Liberty announces it is in the “final stages of resolving Level II NCAA rules violations committed by three members of the football staff regarding impermissible communications with two prospective student-athletes. As a result of the violations, Liberty has agreed to self-impose penalties that include suspensions of the involved football staff members. The University has cooperated fully with the NCAA and anticipates final resolution of this case in the near future. Until that time, the case is subject to NCAA confidentiality requirements.” Flames AD lan McCaw: "We take responsibility for the Level II violations involving three members of Coach [Jamey] Chadwell's staff who engaged in impermissible communications with two prospective student-athletes and their representatives. Neither of the prospective student-athletes enrolled at the University. We have worked cooperatively with the NCAA enforcement staff to resolve the matter through the negotiated resolution process while taking proactive measures, including suspensions of the involved staff members." Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger indicates the SEC plans to comply with the state court order in Louisiana that would allow former pro players to return to the college gridiron & hardwood. More Dellenger: “However, it does not end litigation or necessarily mean the league won't in the future impose penalties through other legal mechanisms, such as a suit in federal court, or if the SEC wins in trial.” (link)
Meanwhile, Colorado AD Fernando Lovo: “We trust our commissioner and we have great legal counsel at the conference that really kind of thinks through all these different situations and scenarios. We’re hopeful that it is (enforceable). I guess what we’ve learned in this world is you can never say never. You never really know what could be coming around the corner. But we were very intentional about the way in which we discussed the rule. We never intended it to be more punitive than the NCAA would be. This is to supplement, to provide another level, another layer, of protection. We feel pretty good that it will be enforceable.” (link)
Troy AD Kyle George discussed the school’s new $2.1M Troy Bank & Trust jersey patch deal with The Messenger’s Josh Boutwell. Key takeaways…
➤ George referenced the lucrative jersey patch sponsorship deal, a rarity among Group of Six programs, as “huge” for the Trojans in college sports’ new NIL/rev-share era. “They have been a great partner for us, not only Troy Athletics but Troy University at large, for years. We’ve both grown here in Troy and beyond. I think this is great to have the right partner on our jerseys and it further strengthens the entire community of Troy in taking them everywhere we go.”
➤ With jersey patch deals becoming more prevalent in college athletics, gaudy patches that some programs don can become an eye sore. That’s a fact not lost on either George or Troy Bank & Trust. “Any time you do something like this, you want to make sure you do it right. There’s a lot of history with our jerseys and you have to make sure you respect that. We like to be different at times with our jerseys and how we show the different uniform combos but our color scheme remains the same. … I think Troy Bank & Trust was great to work with us in knowing that we want it to be a part of the jersey but not be an eyesore. We needed it to blend together and be the right components that make it a win for everybody.” (link)
Chicago State relaunched its football program yesterday & VP/AD Dr. Monique Carroll recently joined College.town's Anthony Grassi to discuss the university's transition into FCS football, the NEC and more. Here are some takeaways…
➤ On shifting institutional culture and overcoming independent status: "What I inherited was a program where standards had been set over the years, but it just needed a little shock, a little AED to the program to just revive it. ... When I came in, we were independent, a culture of 'you're not competing for championships, what are you doing day-in, day-out?' ... I think the thing I'm most proud of, [with] almost completing four years, is the culture that we built, the coaches I've been able to hire, the staff I've been able to retain because they're great. … I showed them we can't make excuses. We have to figure this out."
➤ As for donor support and facility updates ahead of launching FCS football: "Our donors showed up big for football. We would not have football if our donors, alumni, external stakeholders and corporations did not provide the funding. We have a variety of projects that are going on facility-wise on campus that we're managing. I'm getting updates every day. We have a weight room renovation that should be ready [soon]. It’s projects, just getting them to completion.”
➤ Benefits of joining the NEC: "If I could sum it in one word, I would say stability. … Now we can talk about Commissioner Cup points. We can talk about championships every day, where [previously] that just wasn't the reality. We had a couple of sports that were in leagues as affiliate members, but the majority of the student-athletes weren't. I think it's brought stability to the coaching staff because they know they can compete for a championship.” (link)
Purdue AD Tommy McClelland goes over his initial priorities in a sitdown with the Big Ten Network, including his evaluation process across the major revenue sports, how he plans to protect the university's core educational mission and more. Here’s what he had to say…
➤ Evaluating Football HC Barry Odom entering his second season: "They begin to make progress in year two. Last year with him coming in and you look at it and roster turnover that happened, they were competitive in many of the games, even the games that didn't go our way. I think you see a step forward this year. ... He's a proven coach and he's coaching in a major league like the Big Ten and has found a way to be successful. I think that if we come alongside him, partner with him and give him the resources needed, we're going to see Barry Odom be very successful."
➤ On elevating women’s hoops: "They're optimistic this year. They feel like they've got some transfers and a few international students that can come in and really help lift this program to success. ... I look forward to working with coach on how do we build that program back and how do we get Mackey [Arena] to a place where we can continue to have that cutting edge as it relates to women's basketball? This is a league that's really, really talented in women's basketball. And we know that Purdue should be at the top of that list."
➤ As for separating the educational mission: "The things we need [are] core versus noncore. The core things are academic learning and athletic development and lifetime leadership. Then you have the peripheral things that are the deliverables towards the core. Those peripheral things are your scholarship or NIL revenue share, the transfer portal, uniforms, logos, music. ... But the one thing that cannot change is when a student-athlete comes to Purdue, we're going to make sure they have a world-class education from an incredible institution." (link)
In another edition of CBS Sports’ Candid Coaches feature, Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander surveyed nearly 100 Division I men’s basketball coaches to gather feedback on what effects they believe the newly expanded 76-team NCAA Tournament will have on coaching job security. Of those polled, 44% felt there would be less job security as a result, 37% responded there would be about the same amount and 19% believed there would actually be more. Notable anonymous quotes…
➤ “If you don't make the field, you are very likely out. And if you make the field but get beat … you likely get fired too. Making it isn't enough for many programs and not making it is a death knell."
➤ “Logically if you open the field up to MORE teams, then ADs should/would expect to be in the field more. On the contrary, if teams are spending all the money on players, is there enough to buy someone out? Who knows? But my guess says less security."
➤ "We could probably name several coaches who would still have their jobs today if the field had been 76 teams instead of 68. A lot of coaches have been on the wrong side of the bubble, and those seasons are viewed very differently than a tournament appearance. Expanding the field lowers that threshold just enough that more coaches will benefit."
➤ "I think it will be a similar level of job security. People will adjust to the new number quickly and making the tournament will still feel as good and being on the bubble will still feel shaky."
➤ Many of the coaches who felt job security moving forward will be shakier, as opposed to more secure, also believe revenue-sharing and NIL will serve as a major factor. An anonymous coach: “I think there will be less job security -- especially now that revenue sharing is in full swing. I have a coaching friend at a prominent mid-major program. He told me that before a big game last February, the chancellor of the school came into the coaches' locker room and said to the entire staff, 'I did my job. Now it's time for you to do yours.' There will be more pressure and more expectations from administrators and boosters as investment dollars continue to rise." More. (link)
East Texas A&M AD Jim Curry joined the Inside Lion Athletics podcast to discuss the changing landscape of college athletics, ongoing and future facility upgrades and more. Notably on executing facility master planning with HOK for an indoor training facility and Memorial Stadium renovations: "We've signed a services contract with HOK. They have done some of the biggest college football programs in the country. The most recent program they did was the Denver Broncos training facility. So, it's nice to have them on board to look at how we can program this space. They're going to be in here next week to start the mapping exercise of the building and then we'll start the programming phase from there. ... We've talked about this idea where the field house turns into an indoor training facility with indoor turf and becomes the home of football as well as our other sports." (link)

Michigan has agreed to pay a total of $1.2M to settle allegations brought by a woman who accused former Wolverines Football GA LaTroy Lewis of rape. Per the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Boucher, news of the deal comes the same week Ann Arbor police confirmed they closed the case without asking prosecutors to bring criminal charges in the alleged 2024 sexual assault. Settlement details outline that U-M agreed to pay the woman $848K and her representation another $352K in order to release any claims against the school. While the woman’s attorney, Karen Truszkowski, said she couldn’t comment on the agreement due to its terms, she did say "there is not a correlation" between the settlement and the end of the city’s police investigation. The woman named in the settlement has the same name as a woman who obtained a personal protection order against Lewis earlier this year and in a 2025 police report indicating the woman and Lewis were in a romantic relationship. Both sides agreed to a confidentiality clause, indicating they won't discuss the specific details of the settlement and have agreed not to go public to disparage each other. (link)
