#10: More on American International’s show cause from the New England Commission of Higher Education, as the college is projecting a $17.1M operating loss through FY28 and AIC has fully tapped an $8M line of credit. President Nicolle Cestero tells MassLive’s Juliet Schulman-Hall that net tuition has grown $4M, adding: “Looking to the coming months, the College is taking further measures to secure its future, including an accelerated strategic plan implementation, full review of programmatic and operational infrastructure and additional engagement with philanthropic and community partners.” (link)

#7: Last month, the California State University Board of Trustees approved expanding Cal State Monterey Bay’s Cardinale Stadium to include two new permanent locker room and restroom facilities and a new storage area north of the stadium to allow the venue to be able to host CCAA and NCAA championships and be the home for three new professional teams under its agreement with Monterey Bay Football Club. #5: After receiving strong support from the DII CCA and DII ADA, the Championships Committee is recommending Management Council implement a new policy requiring teams in all sports that use NPI play at least one in-region, nonconference competition to be eligible for at-large selections. “In football, the requirement would be one nonconference contest only, without the in-region component.” If approved, the policy would go into effect in 2027-28, with a waiver process available for those who cannot meet the requirement due to scheduling complications. #2: Trevecca Nazarene FAR/Assoc. Professor of Management Jonathan Burch will succeed AD Mark Elliott in leading the Trojans, per TrevEchoes’ Maven McGregory, who adds: “Elliott said he first approached Burch about the possibility of becoming director of athletics about a year and a half ago. He and Burch planned the transition before Elliott formally announced his retirement. Elliot and Burch worked on a transition plan that allows him to take over gradually until Elliott’s retirement in July.” President Dan Boone: “We’ve known Jon for most of his life here. He was an athlete at Trevecca, who had the kind of academic experience that led him to postgraduate degrees to come back as a business professor, teaching in our graduate business program. He has loved Trevecca Athletics from the time that he was a student to where he is today as a parent of one of our students and as the faculty athletics representative. So, the whole idea that we would have to go find somebody new and hope that they fit, Jon resolved all of that.” (link)
#1: Valdosta State announces it will leave the GSC for the Peach Belt starting in 2027-28. The Blazers are set to compete as an independent in football “for the foreseeable future and will continue to pursue football conference affiliations and strong scheduling partnerships,” per AD Troy Katen, who adds: "Membership in the PBC will reduce travel and give our student-athletes more time in the classroom. It will also give our families, fans and alumni more chances to cheer on the Blazers. In addition, it will strengthen our recruiting within our regional footprint. The Peach Belt has a long tradition of success, and we look forward to helping raise its profile even further on the national stage."
