The initial NPI rankings for field hockey (link), football (link) and women’s volleyball (link) have been released. Check out the updated rankings for men’s (link) and women’s (link) soccer as well.

Last week, NCAA President Charlie Baker recently dispatched a letter to House lawmakers urging them to pass the Protect College Sports Act in its current form, while notably citing statistics that highlight the negative effects multiple transfers are having on graduation rates. From the missive, in part: “The NCAA recently conducted a comprehensive review of graduation outcomes for all Division I student-athletes who entered college sports in 2018. Despite the fact that many in this class graduated before the current unlimited transfer policy went into effect, we are already seeing fewer Division I student-athletes graduating in six years. Across race, gender and sport, our review found that multiple transfers negatively impact student-athlete graduation. Of those who did not transfer, 88% graduated on time, and 12% did not. Of one-time transfers, 81% graduated on time, and 19% did not. And only 71% of multiple transfers graduated on time, while 29% did not. For decades, participating in NCAA sports provided a pathway to academic success at rates that far surpassed those for nonathletes, but endless attacks on eligibility and transfer rules are threatening that success.” (link)

Next week, DII and DIII presidents and chancellors will meet to discuss the impact of athletics on their campuses, higher education funding and affordability, enrollment pressures and more to “help inform future divisional strategic planning and potential changes in legislation or policy. Meeting attendees will include the Division II Executive Board, Division III Presidents Council, presidents from Division II conferences not represented on the Executive Board, Division III Presidents Advisory Group, and select national office staff.” (link)

FloSports Files…
➤ FloSports has signed a multi-year global streaming rights deal with the National Lacrosse League with the company to launch a new FloLacrosse channel, similar to the FloCollege channel. Flo EVP for Global Rights Acquisition Phil Wendler: “We’re not trying to go in and compete with folks for Tier 1 rights, because the bigger players in the world do a tremendous job. But there’s a lot of non-Tier 1 partners that just aren’t getting the love they deserve. … Because with our investment with NLL, if it doesn’t grow, we are not going to be successful. We’re putting our money where our mouth is, we’re putting our resources where our mouth is and we’re going to build a whole portfolio around it to grow around that.” Flo plans to stream select NLL games and the finals on the FAST FloSports Channel. (link)
➤ FloSports’ media rights deal with the CAA (DI), its lone DI partner, is set to expire at the end of 2026-27 and Commissioner Joe D'Antonio says the league is negotiating with Flo and CBS Sports Network on an extension, while also exploring outside options. “The good news is that we're going to have options. ... There are options both within our current structure and outside of our current structure.” (link)

Colorado Mesa rolls out its refreshed brand identity, headlined by a new Maverick mark. AD Rob Courtney: “This year, we’ve focused on growing and defining the future of Athletics for our student-athletes, fans and community. What makes the new Maverick mark meaningful is that it was shaped with the help of student-athletes, students, coaches, staff and alumni. That’s a Human Scale University in action. When our Mavericks see this mark, I hope they feel like they had a hand in it, because many of them did.” Check it out. (link)

Tusculum officially dedicated its gymnasium and court after Hall of Famers Dr. David Bow and Ralph Horne, respectively. (link)

This past weekend, Westmont dedicated its renovated tennis complex after alumni and supporters Ed and Betsy Boersma. (link)

Our sincerest condolences go out to the entire Southern Nazarene community, as well as to the family and friends of football student-athlete Tyler Ulrich following his passing after sustaining a “traumatic injury” during SNU’s game against Ouachita Baptist. SNU’s game this past weekend was canceled. (link, link)

Coaches Corner…
➤ Arkansas-Monticello Women’s Volleyball HC Arlicia Ortiz resigns during her third season, per the Pine Bluff Commercial. (link)
➤ Dominican (NY) names Stevens (DIII) Club HC Jordan Lopez as its new Women’s Bowling HC. (link)
➤ Northwest Nazarene names former pro golfer Graysen Huff as its new Women’s Golf HC. (link)

More Higher Ed…
➤ Tampa President Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg announces she will resign at the end of this semester for personal reasons. (link)
➤ USC Beaufort Chancellor Al Panu will retire at the end of this academic year. (link)
➤ Biola launches a record $250M fundraising campaign, Streams of Influence, with $238M already raised. (link)

A network of Super PACs financed by DraftKings, FanDuel, Fanatics, and Bet365 has injected nearly $100M over the past year into state legislative elections to advance gambling industry interests. The sportsbook operators utilize the Win for America PAC to distribute capital to bipartisan affiliates, recently allocating $5.9M to the Republican-aligned American Conservative Fund PAC and $2.7M to the Democrat-aligned American Future PAC from a $9.65M contribution. The PAC also executed substantial investments in mailers and television through political consulting firms like Sway ($347K) and Targeted Platform Media LLC ($194K). The advertising campaigns intentionally omit any mention of sports betting, instead leveraging hot-button political issues to influence the state lawmakers responsible for regulating online casinos and establishing corporate tax rates.
