#6: Paramount has reportedly reached a settlement with a coalition of state attorneys general to clear the final regulatory hurdle for its $81B merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, per The Wall Street Journal’s Jessica Toonkel and Paul Kiernan. The agreement would resolve the antitrust lawsuit led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta and 11 other states, avoiding a trial and sparing the media company from paying Warner shareholders roughly $650M quarterly in "ticking fees" if the transaction failed to close by Oct. 1. Under Paramount CEO David Ellison, the combined media conglomerate will unite live sports broadcasting channels, primary streaming services Paramount+ and HBO Max, broadcasting assets including CNN, Cartoon Network and more without being forced to sell off cable networks. #3: MIT (DIII) claimed the No. 1 spot among national universities in the U.S. News & World Report 2027 Best Colleges rankings, dethroning Princeton, which fell to No. 2. Harvard rated third and Yale was fourth, while Cal Tech (DIII) and Stanford deadlocked in fifth. Public university stalwarts Cal and UCLA tied for the No. 1 public school spot, with Michigan, Virginia and North Carolina rounding out the top five, respectively. Overall survey participation among ranked institutions dropped to 73% (down from 79% last year), though data was returned by 99 of the top 100 national universities and 98 of the top 100 national liberal arts colleges. A major category overhaul driven by the 2025 Carnegie Classification update shifted multiple institutions and allowed newly eligible specialized schools to enter the rankings. The set of ranking factors for this year’s edition had one alteration with postgraduate earnings by major replaced graduate indebtedness at 5% of the overall ranking formula. (link)

And now, they’re not. They all have operations people. The SIDs have to go through the operations guys to get close to the coaches themselves. Years ago, we had SIDs that were legends. Tennessee, you had Bud Ford, one of the most respected men in sports information history. Roger Valdiserri at Notre Dame. Paul Manasseh at LSU. I could run through the litany of big names that were SIDs. Then suddenly the schools started to pay less, hire children basically—kids coming right out that had been associates and assistants. And now they’re all scared of the coaches for the most part.” (link)
