Iowa State hires Auburn Executive Deputy AD Jared Benko as its next AD, starting October 30. President David Cook: “Athletics is vital to the strength of our university. Jared Benko brings the leadership experience and strategic vision to build on our success, support our student-athletes as students first and ensure Iowa State is well positioned for the future of college athletics.” ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported the hire. Parker Executive Search assisted with the process. (link)
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports: “The average additional payment that ESPN will pay for the expanded College Football Playoff is $345M annually the next five years, per sources, which is in addition to the average of $1.3B annually over that time ESPN is already paying. Of that new $345M, ESPN will only essentially be paying $205M, as they are getting back $140M annually from the cancellation of the three power conference championship games that ESPN owns the television rights to broadcast.” (link); Thamel adds: “Per sources, the amount Fox is expected to get back for the cancellation of the Big Ten title game, which it owns the television rights to, is estimated in the $50M range annually.” (link)
After the football win over Indiana, Ohio State released renderings outlining a major renovation and expansion of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The plan in Columbus is to target an upgrade of the 39-year-old facility that will expand the weight room, team meeting spaces, locker rooms, training areas, and office complexes, with construction estimated to begin in roughly 18 months. Coastal Carolina AD Chance Miller on his football squad’s 1990s-style jerseys for its nationally televised matchup against Appalachian State: "There’s so many people that are relocating from other places in the Northeast and the Midwest that might not have had that traditional college football fandom. And we’re trying to get them to come to the games, buy tickets, and really adopt us. This is one of those ways that we can do it." (link)
Student-athletes need meals that support performance and recovery. But on the road, food choices often come down to whatever is nearby — with limited variety and few options that align with nutrition goals.
ezCater gives teams access to a broader range of restaurants and caterers, making it easier to provide balanced meals, more variety, and options athletes will actually want to eat.
That’s made a difference for Crown Legacy FC, where Sports Dietitian Katie Best uses ezCater to spend less time coordinating meals and more time focusing on athlete nutrition.
“ezCater lets me be an actual sports dietician. It allows me to delegate almost all the logistical pieces of coordinating meals so that I can really just focus on the nutritional piece of writing the menus and making sure that athletes get what they need to perform.”
