The SEC has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama against LSU, including President Wade Rousse and AD Verge Ausberry, and Football HC Lane Kiffin. In its complaint, the league requests the court “enter a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting Defendants from violating the Conference’s First Amendment rights by compelling the Conference to associate with conduct that is contrary to the Conference’s purpose and mission.” More from On3’s Pete Nakos. As the SEC's federal lawsuit against LSU was filed and became public on Thursday, Commissioner Greg Sankey was on the stand testifying in a Baton Rouge court in the preliminary injunction hearing involving former NFL players Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Sankey’s testimony at today’s hearing lasted more than three hours with the commissioner staying in his custom monotone for the duration. College Football Playoff officials are considering a move toward triggering a mandatory 30-day negotiating window with ESPN as they pursue the value of potential expansion options, per Ross Dellenger, who writing for On3, notes sources caution the decision has not been formally made, but talks are accelerating to the point that network officials and staff members are expecting it to occur. Middle Tennessee unveils plans for a $16M upgrade to the west side seating area of Floyd Stadium that’s expected to add more than 2,200 new 24-inch chairbacks with substantially wider 48-inch seating treads. Eastern Washington is moving forward with the $8M second phase of its Roos Field upgrade project, with plans to construct an elevated press box above the eastern grandstands. This next stage of development is expected to commence next year and be completed in time for the 2028 football season. The effort is part of nearly $250M that EWU expects to spend on facility and capital improvements over a 10-year period. (link)
