The Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors has unanimously approved a five-year contract extension for Commissioner Tony Petitti that would keep him with the league through June 2033. (link)

The enforcement mechanisms behind the Big Ten and SEC bans “potentially signals the first step toward the long-gestating proposals within the Big Ten and SEC to shoulder enforcement policies under a new rules-and-enforcement model separate from the NCAA,” per CBS’ Matt Zenitz and Brandon Marcello, who note the conferences “have been preparing self-governance models in case legislation in Washington, D.C. fails to become law later this year.” (link)

The SEC has finalized punishments for any program attempting to roster a player who previously signed a pro contract (and/or declared and didn’t formally withdraw) with the NFL, NBA, G League or WNBA that include a half-season suspension for HCs; the revocation of SEC voting privileges on business matters for the violating school; and a fine of 50% of that sport’s annual operating budget, while the league retains the right to levy other penalties by Commissioner Greg Sankey and/or SEC presidents/chancellors, if necessary.
